The 9th Annual 3on3 Charity Jam is a FREE all day event designed to connect communities through the incorporation of music, art, food, and charity, spearheaded by a co-ed 3 on 3 basketball tournament hosted in Maine’s King & Queen cities, Portland, and Bangor.
With the support of the Maine Red Claws, the winning team from the 3 on 3 Super-Star division will be given the opportunity to follow their dreams to the NBA by earning a free tryout for the Boston Celtics and Charlotte Bobcats, NBA D-League affiliate “the Maine Red Claws”. Winners from other leagues shall receive trophies, t-shirts and other prizes to be announced.
Charity Vending Booths
To provide an opportunity for community nonprofits to raise funds and awareness for their efforts, charities are allotted FREE vending space to set up food and merchandise booths. To build a collaborative effort, groups are encouraged to provide additional volunteers to assist with running the tournament.
Event History
Conceptualized in 2000 by former University of Maine Basketball standout Ramone Jones, the originally tournament was labeled the 3on3 Hip Hop Jam that featured local Hip Hop group ILL Natural. Inspired by the power of giving, the first tournament benefited the Jimmy V Foundation as well as other local charities. In 2004 Concepts4Charity’s National Director Kaleem Clarkson approached Ramone Jones about collaborating on the event to help strengthen the tournament, by adding some different elements and modifying the name to the 3on3 Charity Jam. This year the University of Maine’s Recreation Center will be donating basketball hoops to enable the Bangor tournament to be played at the historical waterfront.
