Catching Up With Chris Lowry
Putting Community First
by Kaleem Clarkson
Can you give us a little history on your charitable work?
I started out with the American Cancer Society in 1999. I had 3 family members that battled breast cancer. Being there and watching them go through all that was very hard. I wanted to do something to assist in the research and development for a cure by volunteering for these events to make them better. After that I started helping out with Juvenile Diabetes, Aids and Red Cross Relief Events.
What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment so far?
That after 6 years I’m still very much involved with C4C. From sitting with our director over dinner 6 years ago about the idea of C4C from a drawing board level, to now being on a national level. I think that it is by far the biggest accomplishment for me. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Charities/Artists from local and national levels while engaging people on the mission and vision of C4C is just amazing.
Who personally inspires you the most?
I could go on forever with this question. I get inspired by so many people. I guess I’m inspired most by people that continue to go after there dream. They don’t let nothing stop them from obtaining there goal and they are very passionate about obtaining that goal. People like Chris Gardner from the 80's to name one person.
Is there an event that sticks out as your major accomplishment?
Our MTV Rock the Vote event in Worcester. That event was incredible. We had a lot of fans. We had local politicians in attendance speaking about the importance of making your vote heard. Great bands and a lot of volunteers made this event awesome.
How do you make time for your community involvement and C4C?
I manage my time effectively and work for a great company that believes in supporting issues in the community. I have a lot of good friends and family members that assist me when I need it.
Any “final thoughts” you’d like to share?
I would like to say if you want to make a difference than get out and volunteer. There is a lot of organization in your community that needs your assistance. Being able to volunteer for a good cause is a great feeling at the end of the day.
