Volunteer Spotlight
What social issue is the most important to you and why?
Childhood obesity. This is most important to me because this is something that can be prevented through education and youth programs. Studies show children who are involved in sports at a young age tend to be athletic as adults, are better rounded and succeed in the workforce because they have learned teamwork, coaching, competition and leadership skills.
What type of program is needed in your community?
I am new to my current community; however, I think every community should have a good sports programs for an affordable price anywhere you reside. I remember in the neighborhood where I grew up – there was not much to choose from, so I studied Tae Kwon Do on my own. I was lucky in the fact that my parents could pay for tuition at $60 / month.
What involvement have you had with nonprofits or your community?
I am a member and Board of Director for the American Marketing Association, Sacramento Valley – www.amasv.org. I am taking on new responsibilities on a monthly basis.
How did you get interested in helping out with charities?
I thought it would be good way to give something back to society, learn some new skills and network.
Do you prefer mp3 or Cd?
My preference is towards MP3.
What songs are currently in your ipod, mp3 or cd player?
I listen to hip-hop (crunk), so some of my songs include artists such as Jamie Foxx, Lil Wayne, TI. I feel the Southern part of the US produces some of the best stuff.
What skills do you think you have that contribute to an organization?
I feel I have enthusiasm, get along well with others and have a background in Marketing and Sales.
What do you think about the idea of Concepts4Charity’s mission to engage youth in philanthropy through sports and the arts?
I think it is an awesome idea. It ties back to the social issue identified in 2) – Childhood Obesity.
